The Onus lies on the common man..

The onus lies on the common man to figure out if the food she is eating is real or not

The onus lies on the common man to figure out if her phone bill includes any unnecessary charges

The onus lies on the common man to fish out fake information from truth(if there is any out there)

The onus lies on the common man to resist all temptations to the ‘relevant’ recommendations she is bombarded with everyday

The onus lies on the common man to sniff out who is sharing her private data/how much & what that all means

The onus lies on the common man to think through the health implications of the many devices her child is glued to

The onus lies on the common man to willingly accept that healthcare today adds more stress to life

The onus lies on the common man to decipher if the medicine prescribed to her will lead to a lifelong addiction

The onus lies on the common man to understand that ‘free’ markets are driven by vested interests

The onus lies on the common man to find out what are plastics made of, which ones go to a landfill and what happens 100 years later

The onus lies on the common man to investigate the purity of the water that pours out of his tap

The onus lies on the common man to pay her taxes dutifully while the wealthiest are busy inventing new instruments or lobbying the government to reduce theirs

The onus lies on the common man to top her skills every day , fight for sustenance & invest for the future

The onus lies on the common man to feel empowered, make her voice/vote count

A perfect recipe for all institutions to pass on their collective social/environmental/ethical responsibilities over to the ever knowing, ever powerful common man who has access to equal opportunity and can be fired for a drop in her productivity serving the profit-making machine

The onus lies on the common man to acquiesce to a false sense of control whilst her own attention is enamored with what they want her to see.

P.S: The use of the term ‘the common man’ and the pronoun ‘she/her’ instead of ‘he/him’ is intentional.

We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Alabama 1965
